| Adding Aftermarket Keyless Entry/Alarm DIY I figuared after doing a bit of the work i would help anyone out who had the same problem. I installed alarms for 6 years with best buy so please feel free to ask questions if you're interested in doing your own alarms/Keyless Entry's. When I bought my 03 MCS, the doors locked at the normal 10mph mark but didnt unlock when you shut the car off. This drove me nuts because i had to tell everyone who rode with me to pull the door handle twice. The Mini Dealer here in Orlando, Fl, wanted $125 to reprogram my computer to fix that. If i end up retrofitting an OBC, I may still have them do it. But for the time being, i installed half an alarm to control the unlock of the doors. heres the Details: I installed a python 460hp, which is made by DEI (viper, python, hornet ect). It was lying around my house but could be purchased used for about 30$. I didnt have the antenna so I didnt install the whole alarm. The alarm has an "ignition controlled doorlocks" feature that locks the doors 10 secs after ign on, and unlocks immediately at ign off. This was only a 4 wire hookup, and all of it was done in the passenger kick panel! Remove passenger kickpanel to gain access to the BC1 (body control module). Constant power can be found as follows in the large green plug at the bottom: Red/Purple=30amp purple/white=10amp Red/Blue=30amp Red/Black/yellowdots=20Amp Red/Yellow=50Amp red/White=50Amp I Used purple/white. All of these wires trace directly back to a fuse according to the bently book. Ground can be made or bolted to any clean bolt. I bolted it to the BC1's mounting bolt. Switch power was a bit more difficult to find but i knew it was there at the harness and i didnt want to run wires all over the car. In the white plug next to the green one on the bottom of the bc1, there is a purple/red wire (small gauge) rated at 5Amps. This goes directly to fuse 7 and turns on during the run/IGN/Start positions. Since the alarm only needs an ign trigger and puts no load on this wire, i used it and it worked great. Finally the door locks. I read an alarm thread that mentioned two sets of door lock trigger wires. One mentions a set that comes from the drivers door and the unlock has to be pulsed twice to open both doors (if your computer is programmed for that). Ive heard (not tested tho) that these wires wont work once the ignition is on, so I used the door lock switch wires. These wires will unlock both doors at the same time and lock both at the same time, just as if you were pushing the lock button. I only used my (-) unlock wire from my alarm because I only needed the Unlock feature. This wire goes positive during lock, and (-) during unlock. The Lock wire does the reverse of this. The car will need to see a (-) pulse to lock/unlock. The door lock wires can be found at the blue plug on the top of the BC1 as yellow/brown (unlock) and yellow/red (lock). Thats it for my install. It works great. It does nothing when i turn the car on (Because the factory BC1 already locks the doors) and the alarm unlocks the doors when the ign is off. FYI: Mostly all of the DEI alarms have an ignition controlled door lock feature. Some have "comfort closure" or "exteneded door lock pulse times". These features will hold the door lock wire and automatically roll up your windows each time you lock it. And you can use an AUX channel from the alarm to Roll down the windows. These features need to switch to the other set of door lock wires i mentioned earlier that come from the drivers door and mimic a key turning in the cylinder. These wires from the door are: blue/red and (White/grey or White/black) found in the black plug on top of the BC1. |
