squealing / whining noise when i press the clutch?

Hi Everybody,

I was driving home tonight and noticed that my car started making a quite squealing noise when i press the clutch down to shift into gear. I thought maybe i was just being paranoid but, once i got home i listened to the engine without being in gear and it sounds fine. As soon as i depressed the clutch in, that's when i heard the quite squealing. Any one know what this might be?...

BTW, I just had my crank pulley and alternator belt replaced last month, if that helps.

Eeep!! That sounds like your clutch could be about to fail. My buddy's 02 MC clutch failed just a few weeks back and he described the same symptoms.

I would have that diagnosed.

Sounds like it could be the thrust bearing, which comes as part of the clutch kit....

i dropped it off at the dealership today, waiting for the dealership to call me back....cross your fingers for me!

So what happened? Our MINI just started doing the same thing

I'm hoping it's something smallish, so we have our fingers crossed as well

Normally it's the clutch release bearing failing (throwout bearing in US) which means changing the clutch.
