Replaced power steering pump but lights still dim when steering is turned?

finally got round to changing my power steering pump which was previously cutting out while i drive about. However i still notice that in a parked position, if you turn the steering slightly, the headlamps dim. Is this acceptable from a new poer steering pump? seems like to me that the pump is still drawing more power than it should and hence making the headlamps dim

o also the whinning noise from the power steering pump has now gone ps kinda miss it tbh

ne thoughts?

How old is your battery?.........they can get to the point where although still ok to start the car they struggle to maintain full power to everything else on a modern car like the Mini. Maybe worth checking both battery and alternator outputs are within spec. under load.

I too would miss the characteristic PS pump whine on early Mini's..........I have found it often comes back again after a short time on the reconditioned pumps.

the battery is indeed bran new replaced it about 1 month ago as my car wasnt turning on in the mornings. I thought this was down to the power steering pump shorting it out as it would cut out and when i turned the car off to 'reset' the pump, the car would not turn on. hmmm making me think that maybe the alternator is packing in too, although these nippon ones generally keep going

The lights will dim some (chinese food, anyone?) at idle with a new pump and a new battery and a good alternator.
You'd be surprised how much current that pump draws when you move the wheel.
