DIY need help

Hi all

Had my mini for few months now and the break light has always been on, on dash, when I changed the wheels I noticed a random wire that split to 2 wires just hanging around on drivers side rear, I asume this is the reason for the light on.

Is this the sensor for the break pads as i can only see this wire one one side at the rear. When previous owner had this good knows what they did but any ideas of how to fix as the 2 ends just look like there shredded. How does the sensors work etc...

Also were I have been parking my car a puddle of oil has collected over few months must have dripped little each time, when I tried looking it seemed to be from the seal from the drive shaft I could be wrong tho. Is there any way to check this is true and is a gather job or at home job. When I have been going over pumps herd little knocking sound but thought was suspension but do u think could be related to this.

Sorry gone any help would be good

Thank you Carl
