OBD Question

I just got my MINI. It's an '06 Cooper. Part of the deal I worked out with the dealer was to have all of the standard maintenance due done at no additional charge. I had read the Carfax report, and there was quite a bit due. When I was on my way to the appointment to have all of that done, the SES light came on.

Unfortunately, I do not have a BMW dealer locally, so I am at the mercy of the import expert at the dealer where I bought the car. He says that the OBD test returned a code he had never heard of before. He needed some time to research it. Since it was late in the day on the last day before they closed for Christmas, they just scheduled a follow-up appointment, and I didn't press the issue. However, I do have an OBD scanner at home, so I ran my own test. It returned nothing.

The SES light is no longer on. So do you all think that the mechanic reset computer while he did his diagnostics test? Also, any ideas on what possibilities his test might have turned up? I really should have asked, but there was a lot of work done that day. I had a lot of questions, and that one just kind of slipped through the cracks.

Thanks for reading.

He reset it, drive the car untill it comes on again and check the code. If anything it will help you determine if the mechanic is honest.

Thank you for the response.

The light came back on tonight, and my code reader turned up a code of P2097. After reading the sticky post here, that sounds like a catalytic convertor issue.
