Resetting R53 nav system

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the Mini but not to BMW's. I've previously owned a BMW Z4M with the Mk. IV navigation system. I now own an R53 with the Mk. III nav.

In the spirit of keeping things as updated as can be, I thought it'd be a good idea to update the nav computer's firmware. I had previously done so on the BMW with a great result.

Unfortunately, I've experienced what seems to be a 'common' issue of the nav system getting stuck on a black screen. The drive won't give the update disc back, either.

I have tried disconnecting the neg battery lead, leaving it for 30 secs, and reconnecting. At the same time my partner pressed the eject button on the unit. It still didn't eject the disc.

I am apprehensive of removing both battery leads and touching together- should I do this?

In short, does anyone have any advice as to how I can resurrect the unit?
