Hi

It's hard to tell with out looking at it but.
I would take the belt off and turn the SC by hand see how it feels, it should feel smooth ish.
Also if you rotate the pulley backwards and forwards there should be no slack,
it should feel positive.
If the car is not over heating and is running around the 95 to 100 deg c mark that means the water pump is being driven ok so I would think the pump gears are ok.
It could be the snout drive adaptor or bearings which is and easy job to do but it can not be done in the car, which makes it a bit of a pain
If you have to pull the ends off the SC remember to seal the faces with a good sealer to stop the oil leaking out you don't need much just a small amount I use Kawasaki bond, Honda bond or Yamaha bond all the same stuff

I would take your belt off totally lock back the tensioner at the second hole and run the car see if it still makes the noises you describe.

DO NOT Run the engine for long 30 seconds max as with no belt you have no water pump and you will boil the engine.

Also check you belt tensioner pulley, alternator bearings crank shaft pulley and A/C pump if you have it

Keep your eye on eBay for a SC new or delivery mileage with black rotors is what you want

Here are some handy links

Auto X Cooper MINI Cooper Supercharger Rebuild Service R53 M45 Eaton PTO Water Pump Super Charger

Mini Cooper Supercharger Complete Rebuild Kit - KWIKPHYX

There are lots of pulley choices out there 15% is pretty safe bet Alta, M7, craven speed, KAVS all good I use an alta 15% v2 never had a problem
Remember if you are going to do the pulley you will need a shorter belt. You should also upgrade the plugs as well and it is advised that you change the intercooler for maximum effect.

Parts I changed while I had my SC off

Thermostat with gasket 11537596787 x1
O-ring 11517509186 x2
SC Profile-gasket 11610020836 x1
SC Gasket 17511520044 x1
SC Gasket 17511524319 x1
Never hurts to do the engine and gearbox oils and coolant just make shore if you do the coolant you bleed the system properly all info can be found in the FAQ section for that

Hope this helps

I figured I would do the belt test just because I have to take everything apart anyways, but sounds like the supercharger is most likely the culprit right?

And thanks for the part numbers, the new supercharger won't come with the gaskets and orings you mention?

Hi ya

No SC come as just the unit then you have to swap the stuff across
I changed my thermostat as it was easy to do while I was there
I use this site if you put in the part numbers it will show you where they fit RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog

There is a good chance that it may be the pulley on the assy has gone, my mates went and sounded like the engine was going to fall out . But when you get the belt off you will see.
If the belt is slipping due to streach or worn bearings or abit of both you will be down on power.
As a rough guide if you can't see the top hole on the tensioner stop plate you need to change the belt
I for got to say check the SC pulley for radial and axial play to
The belt can be abit fiddle to get on when new, draw your self a little picture of the belt run to if you don't have a manual
Hope this helps you out, good luck let us know how you get on

Everything Marque said is spot on, could not have said it better myself. Good luck . I picked up a supercharger w/30k on it awhile back and put it on the shelf in the garage , SC and waterpump are wear items and go sooner or later.

2004 MCS JCW, 15% pulley, Dinan CAI, MSD ignition & wires, Mynes V2 header, TSW rear control arms, H-sport front and rear sway bars, H-sport lowering springs, Powerflex bushings all around, modified Forge intercooler, M7 STB , ATI Damper

Ah, I never thought about the belt not being tight enough due to the tensioner, and making no power!

Let's cross our fingers and hope it would be something that simple. If not, I was prepared to haul the supercharger outta there anyways.

Thanks for all the helpful advice! Hopefully I'll get to tear into there in the next few days
