Electrical Gremlin?

Hi All,

Hoping you can help. I have a 51 MINI one.

Last week, went to the shop, didn't lock the car as was only a second. Came back got it, put key in and nothing. No dash lights or anything.

My partner came and met me to have a look. While he was looking under the bonnet to see if battery was connected it 'came back to life' and has been fine until today.

Both times the battery has had 12V but dead to the car as if unlpugged. He did notice that the Parrot phone kit was powered so assuming thats a direct connection the the battery or something.

This time even after an hour nothing. So he put his jump leads on and it fired straight up and has now been ok. What difference did the jump make?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Kind regards

Siobhan.

Is it the original BMW branded battery?...........if so it has almost certainly reached the end of its life, 10 years is a good innings......modern car batteries last longer but fail quite suddenly, can be intermittent if only one cell has failed but really not worth re-charging as it will only let you down again when most inconvenient!

Hi ya,

Thanks for the response TBH not I didn't notice the brand but will check later.

If this were the case, how would it explain having 12v though? or is this where we get into physics and its an amps thing? the all or nothing is confusing though.

Thanks

Hi ya
I would agree with mab sounds like the battery To me
Yes you are correct its a physics and amp thing.
You can get the battery tested I think halfords can do it or if you a member of the AA or RAC if it plays up again get them to test it.
I would also check your fuse boxes in the car and under the bonnet and just make shore your relays and fuses are all secure.
If you replace the battery make shore you get the right one for your car.

It might also be worth having a look at the body control unit there Is a known problem with water ingress. It located behind the right hand trim panel drivers foot well. This controls lots in the car and can cause lots of problem if it gets wet
Hope this help you out, keep us up today and we can help you more :-)
