Power steering louder than usual..

Hi guys,

Noticed a bit of increased volume from my power steering. I recall my Mini Cooper (Auto) 2002 making a somewhat sexy purr when turning enough to active power steering, but now it seems it's a bit louder than usual.

It also seems a lot more sensitive, in that the slightest of nudges/caresses invoke the noise.

I'm also certain that sometimes, even when idle and not touching the wheel at all, it might just randomly purr.

No warning lights, but I'm guessing something is wrong or about to go wrong. Any ideas?

Not necessarily but if you have a 2002 Mini with the original ps pump (like I also do!) then sooner or later it is likely to fail with increasing age and mileage covered. You could of course replace/ clean out/ overhaul the ps pump before that point is reached but few of us do...........
