Help, 2003 Cooper gearbox (I've searched)

Hi guys.

Just a quick one, my girlfriends 2003 Mini Cooper has a problem.

Now, its got 70k on the clock and having read up it appears that the 'Midland gearbox' might be on its way out.

Basically it started months ago

A slight whining noise until the clutch pedal was pressed, then silent.

Anyway, its got worse to the point where it now clunks and clonks all the time (now very loud) Ive jacked the front end up and when i spin the front passenger wheel its cliking and clonking (sorry about my sound descriptions )

So having just replaced my mates VW gearbox and clutch im thinking I might just get a reconditioned box and swap it.

Can anyone let me know if this sounds like the box. Im worried that the clutch and flywheel might have some part to play... BUT there is no slipping or play in the pedal etc etc
