Convertable roof is broken :(

Hi All, have got a problem on my hands, the cars an '04 mini one cabrio, roof was working well, had a slight problem with the front part lining up with the a pillars when we bought it but that went to bmw and got fixed but heres my problem..

roof was working well, then drove somewhere with roof down, went to put roof up, roof went up ok but the sunroof bit didn't go forward and wouldn't shut. Leaving me with a 1 foot gap and now not moving in either direction. buggar. So we shut it manually. Roof switch isn't lit up, i have tried another switch - still no better. I have no voltage to the sunroof motor when operating switch so im thinking the microswitches aren't telling the control unit its locked into a pillars so no power will be sent to motor or wiring/control unit fault.

So anyone have any ideas? oh and where are the microswitches located? the boot load cover is inplace and switch closed.

Soft tops can be hell to work on and trace a fault, even the MINI technicians dread having to fix them.
The top uses 4 hall effect sensors to determine whether the top is latched, sunroof open, top stored or top main pillar up,and the sunroof part motor has 2 incremental sensors (transducers) monitor direction and speed.
The sunroof motor is more or less above your head on the centre bow and the hall effect sensors controlling the sunroof section, one at the nearside on the centre bow and one on the nearside of the windscreen header. The other sensors control the rest of the hood operation.
Of course it might be due to the fuses, F16 10 amp
The sunroof section motor is also protected from overheating should it be stiff or jam should it be prevented from moving for 2 minutes, when overheat protection is activated a fault is logged in the Convertible top module memory.
If you could access the fault log, as MINI would probably do, it might give you a lead as to what point its failed.
Its all very complicated
