Hit a HUGE pothole...now left with lots of problems :(

Hi...after a few words of wisdom and advice if i may?

I recently purchased a mini one 2001 plate and on an outing i managed to hit a rather humungous pothole

Now it managed to damage both tyres which i replaced, further damaged my steering rack (which was already in need of replacing) but i have a couple of niggles that i cant solve.

The low tyre pressure light is still flashing, though only comes on after a mile into journey and the oddest one of all is the temperature gauge. When i start driving the car and the engine is cold the temp gauge reads extremely hot (goes almost all the way to top) and after 10 mins into the journey the gauge drops back down to halfway and doesnt move. Now it never did this before the bump so just wondering what is causing this?

i also just wanted to ask about the steering rack..my mini has always made a type of 'clunking' when the steering is full lock but after the bump its a lot louder...should i be worried?

Sorry for the long message and thanks in advance for any advice

You should take a picture of the pothole and refer it to the local council asking for them to foot the bill for the repairs/tyres. They spend an absolute fortune on these type of claims, I read somewhere that they are paying out more in claims than it would actually cost to repair the potholes in some instances.

Clunking on full lock may be a driveshaft CV joint worn, made worse by the pothole impact best to get it checked out. Test on a quiet empty car park to see if it clunks in one or both directions while driving on full lock.

Some useful help and advice here on pothole claims:
