| dashboard rattle My mini has now done just over 100 miles and has developed a rattle from just above the speedo. When going over rough surfaces it is almost unbearable (cobbled streets in Edinburgh city centre are common). Does anyone have experience of a fix for this? Also the passenger side roof guttering is coming away from the body slightly at the very rear of the side section. How do they fix this? My car is a November 2002 build and quite frankly I expect better from a car costing £13,000. I will be letting BMW know exactly how I feel! |

When going over rough surfaces it is almost unbearable (cobbled streets in Edinburgh city centre are common). Does anyone have experience of a fix for this? Yes there is a fix! Anthony at Schomp MINI in Denver has discovered that there is a centering pin at the very front edge of the dash that fits into a V shaped groove. If the fit is a bit loose, it rattles. He fixed it by pinching the V groove to create a tighter fit. The tricky thing is that it is very difficult to get to the V groove to effect the repair. He found that the easiest way to do it was to remove the windscreen and get at the dash from the front. ($200 windscreen replacement vs. $600 labor time) It worked perfectly - no more rattle and a new windscreen to boot! I am so pleased. |

| Sad to see that the gutter trim problems still persist-go to the search engine and type in 'Gutter Trim'for the full details of this fault.FYI its a simple case of replacing the trim.Hope this helps, RAYASP. |

| I have had exactly the same noise from above the speedo. I assume it is the centre dash vent as when I hit that area the rattle shuts up (briefly). It's winding me up too! I originally had a quiet dash and a noisy N/S door card, but the door card must have bedded in as it shut up by itself but the dash is a newish niggle. I can't believe that the windscreen might have to come out!! I have two stone chips on it already so I might suggest that particular fix! |
