Xenon headlight & BC1 problems

Hi everyone,
I have a cooper s 2003 that had problems with the BC1 so i bought a second hand one from Mini spares UK who check them and give a 90 day gaurantee. I have fitted it and now my Xenon headlights work with the ignition on and the engine NOT running, as soon as the engine is running then the lights flicker constantly, if i turn the steering or put both electric windows down then while i'm doing this the lights stay on! Could it be a faulty BC1 or am i looking for a fault elsewhere. ANY HELP IS MOST GRATEFULL AT THIS STAGE AS IT'S DRIVING ME DAFT AND I AIN'T GOT MUCH MONEY!!

Hi

When you fitted the BC1 did you recode it to our car ?
the body control units can not be swapped between cars with out reprogramming or you will have problems.

Ahh right, this is maybe where i'm going wrong then as the way i had read it was that i only needed to recode it if i wanted the remote locking to work. I don't have the old unit any more will this cause problems?
