Faulty Parking Sensors - Fuse good and all ticking

Just piced up a cooper s and the parking sensors aren't working. I've searched forums endlessly and the general consensus with faulty parking sensors is:

a) the fuse is blown
b) a sensor is knackered

Well my fuse is fine and theres no beeping noises at all coming from the system at all. The reversing light comes on so the sensors should be activating. I've listened as recommended and all of them sensors make the ticking noise suggesting they're working. My only guess then is that the audible warning is broken.

Where should the noise be coming from. Is it the stereo speakers or a separate unit - if the latter where is it located/do they break????

cheers, Rogan
