Canada I lost my h

I have a canadian 2003 mini cooper 5 speed manual two door base ,so I was taking off from a red light that just turned green , shifted into 1st all good, shift to second all good , go to shift to 3rd , give it sum gas pull in the clutch shift up and over to 3rd but the shifter just slips over to fifth? So I'm like wtf . Still have the clutch pulled in and rolling down the street , I'm moving my shifter all around tryig to find gears but it's like there's nothing there no H pattrin to find a gear I can move it up down left right diagnally. I pulled into the next drive way and towed it home as it wouldent get out of nutral , I fallowed the shifter linkages from the shift to the outside of the tranny bell housing and all where working ok and interact I never heard a gear brake or shutter I never felt my clutch to any thing sketchy or slip has any one had this problem or know anything about this I haven't had my mini long and am a new driver to begin with
