Replacing BCM1 module - options???

Hello all.

After awful problems with the central locking and an auto electrician later the locking still kept locking and then unlocking straight away , even when manually using the key. Everyone has given up trying to find the problem

Today i thought i would take out the BCM1 as this looks the most likely culprit. Took it out and had a look at the circuit board but looked ok.

Put it back in the car and the central locking now does not work from the fob but does work from the key finally so i can lock the car all round

However, now the windows wont work and random indicators are flashing around the car so clearly the BCM1 is knackered

Can i swap this for a second hand BCM1 unit??? Im not bothered about having remote central locking as long as it works on the key to avoid re-programming costs as minisparesuk have second hand ones in stock. The car is a Mini cooper CVT and the date on the BCM1 is a year after the car was manufactured so its already had one at some stage!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any advice is appreciated as im not sure its worth putting £600+ into the car given its age and milage

thank you

New and used modules have to be programmed to your car with its correct options, keys, etc although MINI Dealers are obviously not keen to program a used unit with wrong VIN for customers, so you often need to find an independent BMW/MINI specialist.

BBA Reman can repair your own BC1 which bypasses any programming normally.

Thanks for the reply. Just ordered one from a mini breakers and they say that it will work just by swapping it to get the car running ok (stop all the lights flashing) and i will just lose the remote central locking function and any options such as panoramic sunroof etc (my car does not really have any options) so ill let you know what happens when i plug it in tomorrow
