The chrome on the Gear knob is wearing off. Not only being rubbed away but sometimes I have little chrome splinters?. It can be a painful experience driving MINI
I've searched the forums for similar faults..But none!
Am I the only one afflicted here?
Tried to get in touch with dealer today but the guy I need to talk to is not there.
I have had a similar thing happen on the chromed plastic bits on my old Honda. Those flakes and splinters can be very sharp.
Since the car is still under warranty, I would suggest that you insist on having the shift knob replaced, as well as any other chromed parts that may be flaking.
I took my car to Sytners on Saturday and they have agreed to replace the gear knob, no questions asked. I also pointed out a few other niggles, ie Faulty gauge reading, handbrake problems & the passenger door not closing properly. My car is booked in for Thursday to have all the niggles corrected together with it's first service. I didn't even have to ask for a loan car, it was granted
Thankyou, Sytners of Shirley (Solihull)for excellent, speedy customer service.
I noticed that the chrome had started to flake off at the base of my gear nob. I rang the dealer and said it was quite difficult to see, but you could feel where it had come off. They said that once it starts it would only get worse so they replaced it under warranty.

[b]you must be grasping the knob too tightly!!
It's in their hands now..
Also threw in the left pull problem. They weren't very successful at fixing this last time my car was in. I'm a bit disapponted that I didn't get another MINI as a loan car ( offered a BMW) but at least I get to own the road for the day..
My car is booked back in for next friday..due to kits/parts being unavailable. Cooper S gear knob ordered by mistake so I'm still having to cope with a (now 50%) de-chromed knob.
I did ask for a quote on part ex for my Cooper for a Cooper S but I was recommended (off the record) to sell it privately.
Thanks for the info, Diverse..Certainly worth the effort to go "shopping".
