I have an R50 Cooper which I have never been able to get the headlamps working properly.
When I bought it, the O/S unit would not adjust up and down on the motor - when you turned the lights on it wouldnt align properly unless you hit it
So I bought some "angel" lights off Ebay and they were cr*p... they looked good but they didnt have the alignment motor and the company I bought them from insisted that I needed to fit the motor from the OEM units and wouldnt believe that they are integral.
So I bought some compatible units with the motors in and these were OK but again the O/S motor struggles to align the beam - so I took the bull by the horn and bought some genuine BMW units today... but you've guessed it the O/S unit motor whirs - but there is no movement. However I plugged it into the N/S loom and it adjusts OK - when I put it back on the O/S loom it whirs but goes nowhere.
So I reckon that this proves its an electrical feed problem and want to meter out the loom to try and find the fault - but while I see 6 wires... two thicker ones I'm guessing are +ve feed to the main and dip lamps... but I need to know what the other 4 should be doing so I can try to find the fault.
Can anyone help - or have you seen this before and can point me in the right direction?
Also does anyone want to buy a box full of assorted headlights as this has become bl**dy expensive now
Thanks in advance
