Odometer, clock and trip computer resetting

Has anyone else had a problem with the odometer, clock, dash dimmer and trip computer resetting back to zero when turning the ignition on/off?
It doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally.
My dealer replaced the dash controller and this seemed to fix it for a couple of weeks (coincidence perhaps??), but it has now returned again.
When my dealer first looked at the problem, mine was the only car that they knew of with the fault, but apparently speaking with them today they have had another car in recently with the same problem.
Any ideas?
My One is a september 2001 build.

I would look at the ignition switch and/or the wiring harnesses. My money is on the switch though. Either an intermittent open or a short is pulling the voltage to those items down. It is more likely a plain old wiring issue than a controller or other electronics issue. Auto mechanics need to be electrical/electronics engineers too these days; unfortunately, they usually are not.

I have also had this problem in the past and it was cured by the service department replacing the ECU on one of its many visits to the dealers! I think that this was part of an "improvement" that BMW contacted me about a while ago.

Andu

Hi Andu
A couple of things to check here...Just try the battery leads first as i had a car that had loose battery lead from having the bc1 recall done.
Secondly check the positive lead in the under bonnet fuse box they have been some minis with this lead left loose from the factory...there have been a number of minis with loss of all electrics due to this lead been loose...its a 10mm bolt.
let me know how you go!
