Unfortunately I think Im having a problem with my transmission. I have a 2006 Mini Cooper with 140,000 miles. Recently I noticed the car would lose rpm in first gear at a slow speed, then after a few seconds of accelerating it would grab into gear (often screeching the tires.)
I went to drive the car the other day and it wouldn't go. It would idle and creep (forward and reverse) at a very slow speed but nothing else. As I accelerated the rpm's would go up, but the car would not move. I just recently purchased the vehicle, the seller told me the transmission had been repaired about 7k miles before I purchased it.
I've read a lot about the problems with these trannys. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I thank you kindly in advance!
A 2006 MINI Cooper will have the 5-speed Getrag gearbox which is normally less troublesome than the earlier Rover Midland gearbox. However after 140,000 miles did the previous owner have the gearbox overhauled properly and a new clutch fitted and was there any warranty on the gearbox/clutch repair/replacement? Did he pass on the repair invoice paperwork history to confirm work carried out?
I asked him again and he confirmed that it was in fact replaced with a CVT. Im waiting for him to contact the mechanic to see if they can come up with a record. I do know the seller and trust that he's not lying to me.
If the system did need to be reset how is this done? Again, I cannot express how grateful I am for your help.
