Hi all, ccan you have a look at my original post about 5 threads below. Thanks to Flying Clutchman for his reply, but i'm not sure i'm any the wiser. Can anybody else add anything, esp re the power steering pump; is a slight whir/hum normal on this car even for a new PSP? Mine has 52000 miles and after all the threads re difficulties withe pump want to know if i need to be aware of an outgoing pump or whether i'm o.k.

Great car, already looking at low miles facelift Cooper s's, but thats something to save up for.........

Thank you all you guys and girls out there. Adrian

PSP whine is normal on R50/53 Mini's even on a new pump......just an early Mini characteristic!

mab01uk, thank you ! At last, thats good news. I figure after 11 yars, as this car had the first tlc package, it would be sorted under that or i could be one of the one third who don't get the issue. Apart from the slight whine ( which is described my some as as the power steering on the mini being a little heavier, but the benefit is translated in the handling and steering feel)

Thank You!

Sounds like your psp is ok at present......if you should ever get intermittent very heavy steering or the pump motor runs continuously even with the engine switched off (disconnect battery to stop it) that indicates the pump is failing and needs replacement asap.

my apologies for not being very clear, I think other people have answered it for you now. I suspect it's where the psp is mounted that makes it audible, it's on the subframe right under your feet, so the noise gets transmitted up through the body. If the clutch is new you will probably find it works better after a couple of thousand miles or so.
