England Asc light on rev counter

Hi I am after some help! I have got myself a 2001 Mini Cooper that has the ASC light on all the time. I have plugged it into the diagnostics and there is no stored fault codes anywhere on the car and have checked all the abs sensors on live reading and all appear to be working ok. Now I am stumped as there seams to be no diagnostics at all for the ASC system. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance

Has anyone got any ideas? Or even how the system works?

i have found another diagnostics system to plug into and this time i have found 1 fault code:

5E18 CAN data fault from DME/DDE

that wont clear so was wondering if anyone has any idea what the DME/DDE is and if there is a possible fix?
Thanks

Hi ya

It sounds like you may have some damaged wires.
If I was you I would disconnect the battery.
remove the plug from the ABS pump make shore it's clean, dry and no corrosion.
Have a very good look around at the wiring there are problems with chaffing wires around there you may have to remove the battery to get a good look at the wiring.
I would also disconnect the plugs from the DME check them also that there clean, dry and no corrosion and damaged wires.
While the battery is disconnect I would check the plugs on the body control unit these control units tend to throw up some funny faults.
They do suffer form corrosion on the earlier cars always worth checking

Hope this helps out

Hi ya

Yes engine control module is the DME,
There was a recall years back for chaffing wires in the DME ,fuse box, ABS pump area

Here a link about BCU that might be helpfully to

Thanks marque

I have checked all the wiring from the abs module to the engine module and all is ok when I check for resistance/broken wire. I have checked my body module to and that is clean and dry too.
Now this is really confusing now and would just love to fix it!
Just a thought could it be an internal fault on the abs module? As I had a close look at the module assembly I have notice it has been replaced before as the brake pipes all got spanner markings from over tightening
