Tachometer Help

I just recently purchased an 02 MCS with a broken tachometer.
The backlight works when the lights are on however that's the only thing that works.
It reads no RPM nor do any of the warning lamps or LCD screen work.
The computer is reading RPM signal as I can go into the ecu and see engine rpm no problem.
I assume then that the problems lies within the gauge itself?
Is there a way to test the gauge?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

On a related note, will any tachometer from a R50, R52 or R53 work? as I notice there are two styles. One with a single LCD display and one with two LCD displays

There is if you get into your mini and turn the key, but don't start it, to the number two position. Then hold the button on the tachometer , keep holding, it will bring up 1. Test let go and hit the button again it should bring up number 2 when this happens let go of the button. Wait a couple seconds and it will run through all of your gauges to make sure everything is working. If one doesn't there you go.
