Fault ??

Hi all

2 weeks ago i put my key in turned it and no lights and engine would not start. Took key out and it started but it made a noise the noise was like starter ticking away for say 10 seconds then car started.

Today i was driving had windows down and central locking appeared to unlock itself and windows moved an inch.
I stopped car and turned key it does start but again ticks over for 1o seconds like the starting motor noise once again.

Any suggestions please???? could this be new battery required??

Thanks People

What year is your Mini and does it have the original BMW branded battery....like most modern cars the Mini does strange things if the battery is failing as they are very dependent on a healthy battery.

A 2004 battery will be very near the end of its useful life and a failing cell could cause electrical glitches as described (as could failing alternator/starter, etc).....the battery can be easily tested under load by someone like the AA or RAC or a good local garage if you don't wish to take a chance and just replace it.

Ok thanks so say i go ahead and change the battery, is this something that can be done DIY ? Or do i need to keep power to the car to avoid issues of losing power whilst the battery is disconnected ?
If i have to keep power to car is there a simple way??

Many thanks

Fairly easy DIY to swap....or if you buy a new battery at Halfords they will do it for you while you wait for a small fee, just in case there are any problems powering things up.
