ASC module replacement needed?
I have a 04 Cooper S, and was driving one day, and out of nowhere the ASC, ABS, and hand brake lights came on. I google online and it seems to be the ABS sensor wire. I took the car to a shop and plug in the computer, and the tech told me it's the ASC module that needs to be replaced instead of the ABS sensor wire, and the module is very costly.
I found couple of used ones online but the tech told me since the used ones already have the existing car data burned into the module, my car will not recongize and the tire pressure light will come up. He showed it to me by switching the plugs to a used ASC module he have on hand.
I was wondering how can people tell the difference between the faulty ABS sensor or faulty ASC module? and if in fact it is my ASC module that needs to be replaced, is there any way I can have the car data on the used ones erased and have my car data on the module so no lights will come on???
