Could be anything. My mini with extremely stiff suspension rattles on uneven road surfaces as well. If it is under the driver side footwell, you can unclip the plastic bit underneath the steering wheel. With a fair bit of force, place your hand in the gap near the steering wheel adjustment lever and then pull it towards you. There is a clip on each side of the steering wheel, start with the one on the side of the stereo. Once open you should be able to use a torch to see if anything has come loose such as a screw, or if another item fell into the area.

I bought a 2014 Clubman S back in October. At about 2500 miles, my car also developed a rattle on the left side somewhere. The driver window squeaks, and the headliner buzzes. The sunroof whistles on the highway. Unfortunately, it all seems to be intermittent. The steering also loosened up considerably, so it's quite sloppy around corners, and there is no on-center feel. This is my first mini, and although I was impressed at first, it seems to be badly built and already coming apart. The dealer fiddled with the sunroof, but no improvement.
