Cigarette Lighter / 12v Power Socket Fault **new member**

Hi guys, new member and first post.

First must say so far this forum has been a great help.

I bought a 52 plate Cooper couple of weeks ago now and have used this forum to sort out odd little problems I have found with the car since purchase (air bag light warning light, blocked rear windscreen washer etc).

I have recently found the Cigarette Lighter / 12v Power Socket Fault, appears to be faulty.

Firstly socket wont heat up the element which came with the car (press it down and just pops back up instantly) and also I donít seem to be able to insert any 12v charger units I have (i.e. sat nav/phone charger), no matter what I do they donít go in far enough and keep popping out of the socket.

I have checked the fuses in both the passenger foot well and the engine bay, but all seems good.

Also the orange surround light is working, which suggests the wiring is fine and has power.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and how they fixed it??

Iím guessing I either need to replace the socket part (seen on ebay for about 15GBP) or at least take up the centre console or check the socket is plugged in correctly.

Any advice would be great.
