Noise When Turning Off Engine

Hi Guys,

When I turn off my engine (Mini Cooper S-2003) I can hear a 'winding down noise' the best possible way to describe it is like the noise a vacuum cleaner makes when turned off...

Anything to be worried about or is it just the SC winding down?

Thanks for any information!

Dave

Its nothing to worry about its normal they all do it, the supercharger stops as soon as the engine does as its run by the auxiliary belt, I think its the steering pump that makes the noise after switch off

also when you pass 108'C the cooling fans will kick on after the car has been turned off. If your mini shudders when you shut it down that could be an issue.

I did look into this a little bit. Mine makes the same sound so I had my fiance` start and shut off my car while I was under it. When you put the key into position 2-3 the fuel pump starts up and the fan for power steering starts up, air pressure builds for start once started the power steering pump kicks on, and if your using air or heat your blower motor starts. when shutting down they go in the same order, fuel, power steering, super charger. Creates like a winding down effect. I read/ heard it is completely normal.

Is it normal that the ps pump turns on while the car has been off for about 15-20min?
Its a 2003 mini s, just did the ps pump change because the other kept on running when switched off.
