Mini One Speedo Fault

Hi guys hoping you can help. The odometer on my 2002 Mini One speedo no longer lights up. All the other warning lamps and the speedo itself works fine. I have taken it to a specialist who wants to charge £150 to fix. I can get a much cheaper second hand one, but I understand it needs to be "re-programmed". Does this have to be a BMW/Mini dealer ? Or is a local garage likely to have the capability ?

Thanks
Craig

Thanks for the help/links guys. I am willing to have a go at the soldering but not first time on this. Annoyingly my local Mini/BMW dealer says they will not do the re-program work on a second hand item - I will have to buy a new part ! Surely it will still need re-programming anyway!

Hi ya

Yes they will have to program a new one.
There only interested in selling new parts unfortunately and they don't want any come back if something goes wrong with the secondhand part,
some bmw mini service centres will do recoding if you fit the parts your self. As then you only paying for there time to code it they normal charge an hour but it only takes 15 min max

It is possible to buy the sss from ebay and load it on to your laptop and code it your self but if must be carefully.

There are a few forums that deal with coding I have done coding my self but not an IKE unit

BMW Coding Forum

Someone here may be able to help or even be local to you to do the coding for you

Hope this helps
