United-States Steering wheel radio controls don't work

I recently purchased a used 2004 Mini with an aftermarket radio. I replaced it with a standard factory model but the steering wheel audio controls don't work.
Are there different radios that do or don't work withe controls?
Did I buy the wrong OEM radio?

Are you supposed to have the audio control system on your MINI steering wheel or has someone just fitted a steering wheel to replace the original and those just happen to be on it?

If the car didnt originally have them then the wiring for them etc wont be there either.

The back of the radio looks different than others I've seen for sale. My wiring harness block has wires in it but there are no 'pins' on the radio in that area.

Does anyone know if there are different wiring configurations for Minis with or w/o the steering wheel controls.

According to the cars information, this one came with the steering wheel controls.

Hi Mini-getch
I'm having the same issue. I have an 05 with an aftermarket, removed it and in stalled a factory unit I bought and my MFSW controls don't work for the radio? it does seem to have continuity between the radio and mfsw harness

Does the unit that you bought have a double set of connector pins on the bottom, or just a set on the right? And, does the wiring connector plug have a black and a white block as well?

Mini-getch have you had any luck with the MFSW issue? I have looked all over my mini and can't find anything wrong.

You probably have to reprogram the computer as well to tell it youve done the job?

Ok I replaced my radio with another HIFI one and my MFSW still wont work for the radio. cruise control works great. I traced the wires from the MFSW to the radio and all looks ok. Not sure what else to look for or at?
BTW its the only thing in the car not working
