Lower front arm

Hi all, selling my o4 mini to a friend to buy a newer 1,, had MOT done 1 month ago and it has an advisory bush worn although MOT states no result in excessive movement
Bmw want £360 but i think this is just an advisory and may still pass ok next year??
Any thoughts welcomed please

Hi ya

Which bush ? It sounds like the front lower rear wish bone bush that your talking about.
If it's only an advisory it should be ok for now, but I would get it changed as it will effect your handling and tire wear.
It's hard to say really with out seeing it wether it needs to be changed or still has a little life left, was the mot done at mini, if it is the wish bone bush it's a 4 hour chargeable job and parts are about £60 ish a side.

Wish bone

Hi

Yes it is the rear wish bone bush there is a little play in it i can tell by putting my foot on the wheel and pushing, also when i pull away there sometimes is a judder for a second...Handling there is no problem but that is what the advisory was on rear bush

I wonder if that bush could actually be changed in situ? rather than dropping sub frame?

No it was not MOT @ bmw

Hi ya

You can do it with out dropping the sub frame but TBH you don't have to drop it right out just slacken it off to drop it enough to be able to lower the rear end of the sub frame. Remove the bracket and bush them replace bracket and bush.
if I remember correctly the complete bush and bracket is about £8 more than the bush only
If you don't want to lower the frame your in to splitting the ball joints to remove the wish bone and there's a good chance you will damage the ball joint rubbers or the ball joint then you can get at the bush but you will need a special tool to remove and install the new bush.

If you drop the sub frame down to do it change you anti roll bar bushes the cheep and well worth changing while your there

If you can push on your wheel and it moves a lot get them changed

Hope this helps
