England 2005 Mini One intermittent starting issue

hey guys, hope you great folks can help!!! I have a 2005 Mini One, which will start and not miss a beat, but some times I turn the key, everything lights up, fuel pump primes, turn the key and silence, no ticking from the starter, no engine turning over, its like I havent turned the key!, I turn it back 2 clicks and try and start it and sometimes itll start first try, sometimes 3-4.

I only have one key! I reset the ecu using the odometer button.....
