Intermittent whooshing CD/DVD writer noise behind Sat Nav screen

Yep, that's exactly what it sounds like. Behind the Sat Nav screen a noise lasts about 3 or 4 seconds and sounds just like a DVD player when you first load a disc in.

I've also noticed my heater expansion header tank (think that's what it's called) has leaked again! and wonder whether the noise is a realise of pressure that builds up. The noise is more apparent when I blip the throttle after the car has been idling for a few moments. However, I'm confused as the noise definitely sounds like a CD burning!

My dealer will not see the car for another 2 weeks (they are busy!!!) and I have a few client visits booked so I'm worried that the car may pack up altogether.

My Sat Nav display works perfectly

Has anybody experienced such a noise?

My car is an Apr 02 'S' and has covered 8000 miles.

I had a similar noise. My dealer removed the dash, Sat Nav Screen, etc. to investigate. Solved the problem for me by re-routing the aircon and heating lines and installing the MINI anti dash vibration kit.[known problem](Lots of Sticky back foam strip) I don't know what solved the problem, may have just been removing and re-installing the dash. Hope this helps.
