Hi all,
Firstly I would like to say HELLO as I am new to this forum.
So, here is the problem -
I have just bought a Mini One (2001) for my wife and have got a really strange issue.
When I bought the car from a private sale the previous owner told me that it had a full tank of fuel as they had just filled up.
After driving it for some time I thought it was really strange as the guage had not gone down.
I took the fuel sender unit out to check how much fuel there was in the tank and as I thought, the tank had around half in it. It was also obvious that the sender had been out previously
I took this to a friends garage and borrowed his Bosch diagnostic machine to look at the sender readings, when i initially tried it the sender worked the wrong way around (as i moved the float up the machine showed less fuel.
I then thought GREAT managed to clean the contacts and messed with the sender a bit and got it reading correctly.
I then disconnected the battery and the guage read half-full so thought this was fixed.
After doing a few miles I noticed that the guage very slowly moved up (at about the same rate it should do if it was using fuel but just the wrong way).
I have replace both sender units (using second hand parts) and it is still the same.
Something else that I have noticed.. when the guage is rising and lets say it gets to 3/4 full, every time I turn off the ignition it returns to that same point. If I then disconnect the battery and reconnect it the guage drops to where I think it should be.
I have had the clocks reset also by a BMW mechanic and that didnt work.
PLEASE HELP!! Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give the full story.
