Hi,
I don't know if any of you had similar problems, but I recently found a very annoying habit of my 5000km old cooper.. When I first start the engine in the morning(ie. after 10 hours of underground parking), there is this 'thump' sound as I put the gear into drive mode. It happens almost every time I gear from park to drive, or reverse to drive, but it's more apparent and unbearable in the mornings. It's getting worse and the thump is now accompanied by a slight forward jerk, and the car actually feels as if sinks a bit too! (I do apply a complete brake while changing gears, for those who might wonder ^^) I feel the slight jerkings and the sinking every time I gear into drive mode.. Does anybody know anything about this kind of problem?
Oh, and I've updated with CD 32, but the near-stallings are re-appearing after about two months.. Is there any 'final' solution to this?
Yep, get Software update 32.1 installed in your car as soon as possible. I got mine updated 3 weeks ago and this annoying morning "Shock" when shifting from Park or Reverse into Drive is completely gone (Along other well documented CVT related annoyances).
Call your dealer ASAP and get an appointment to get 32.1 downloaded.

Version 32.1 has been available in US MINI dealerships since early February 2003. Perhaps you need to make a drive south of the border and head to Northwest MINI in Seattle, WA.
Just an idea.

Update 32.1 rules! I had the same exact problem with my MC CVT clunking into "Drive" when cold and now engaging "Drive" with buttery smoothness! Get the update you'll be so much happier!
