Hi all just a quick one my wife’s car heaters are not getting hot and the coolant bottle was empty so I filled it with water and she said it got a bit warmer but not a lot what could this be ?
Your heater relies on engine coolant to work. Coolant loss seems to be the topic of the month. Have a look around on here for possible reasons as to why your coolant bottle (expansion tank) could be empty. Plenty of threads around if you search.
It could be blocked but I'd be wondering why and where the coolant went to in the first place! Might be worth giving the engine a flush out to see if this helps
Well thats a good sign but i'd flush the coolant system out first as its quick and easy. If there's still no heat after bleeding it up then you will need to check the thermostat, basically start eliminating things that could be wrong
Common issues with Gen 1 minis are thermostat housings cracking/ gaskets failing and thermostats themselves failing. Also the expansion tanks can split over time. If you forward and reverse flush the system then you will have a starting point to work from as if there is any crap in there then this may dislodge it
Right thats great thanks for all your help will get this done and update you
