Heated seats

Hey,
I have a Jan. build 2003 MINI with heated lapis blue leather seats. I have found that recently, my heated seats seem to be turning off on their own after a while of heating. Is there an auto-off feature when the heat has been on for too long, or do your heated seats stay on until you shut them or the car off? Any help would be appreciated much....

Thanks

I don't think it's turn off, I think it's just stay at a temp. when it get colder, it will turn on again. (I think)

Hmm...

Sounds reasonable,
But the button light for the heated seat actually turns off, as if the seat heater is completely off. Can anyone else confirm this? I'll have to check to see if it comes back on after not sitting on it for awhile....

Yeah it's not supposed to do that. When you turn on the heated seats, they get really warm initially and then slowly taper down to a cooler steady temp. But the light on the switch always remains on.

They should not turn off automatically, UNLESS you shut the car off. If you shut the car off, they will reset and turn themselves off, so next time you get in the car, they will be off.

Wink

The heated seats should turn themselves off. You might joke about what your mother says, but shes right....

I've driven for about an hour with the seat set to one. I can't take the seat when it's set to two for more than a few minutes at a time.

My seats have not turned themselves off unless I turned the engine off.

Well...

Sounds like most people have seats that do not turn off. I was curious because the seats only shut off if they have been on for awhile, and if you give them five minutes to cool down, they will turn on again. If they are hot and you try to turn them on, they go on for a few seconds and then shut off automatically. Seemed to be some sort of heat limiting function built in, but that's not what you guys are reporting. The passenger seat will turn on when the driver's side won't, so it's not an electrical problem feeding both seats. Once the passenger seat gets hot, howver, it too will shut off automatically.....

Still confused....

Yeap, The light will stay on. But I don't find it go very hot, I don't mean hot hot. But my other car's heated seat is warmer than MINI, I think I should try on other people MINi and test it.

I've never seen them turn themselves off. Mine stay on until I turn them off or the car is turned off.

I've found that the seats get hot on setting 1 or very
hot on setting two in just a few minutes, but if I keep
them on, they settle down to a more moderate heat and
stay there (say on a scale of 1 to 10: setting 1 goes
0 to 8 then settles down to about 5; on setting to goes from 0 to 12! then settles down to about 8). I've not
had them turn off on their own unless of course I stopped
the engine and restarted.

I talked to other MINIs, they all told me the heat seat can be realy hot, but mine can never get hot..... not even close, I think I better take it down to the shop and have them to take a look......

Info.

The temperature of the seat heating is regulated by a thermostat/temperature sensor built into the seat cushion heating pad.
