acoustic ignition key warning on/off

The users manual says that the warning chime, if the key is left in the ignition when the door is open, can be turned on/off. The tech that looked at my car printed out all the "memory" setting that can be configured and this was NOT one of them. He didn't know of any other way to turn chimes off. Maybe it is done in a different manner than all the other "memory" settings. Anybody ever had this turned off? In BMW's you leave the key in, open the door (chime starts) but then pull the key out and stick it back in and the chime stops, but in MINIs the chime will start again. The reason i want to do this is because I want to be able to have the ignition switched to the accessory position but have the door open with no chime.

I believe the warning chimes for key in the ignition are a federal regulation in the US , not just a courtesy feature. It's much like the seat belt warning light and buzzer when you start the car without putting the seatbelt on.

As such, perhaps the key warning chime can be disabled in other markets, but probably not in the US market.

(You mentioned the accessory position - you do know the radio works without the key, right?)
