Red face Engine Power Loss

My brand new MINI that I bought March 2003 is back in the dealer. I have less than 2000 miles and the "Check Engine Soon" light came on together with the EML light. I immediately noticed a power loss and the MINI would not go past 3rd gear or 30 MPH. Service manager said it was a faulty wiring harness. Has anyone else had the same problem? I've been loving the MINI but a little disappointed cuz part of the joy of driving a new car is that everything is working. Hope they fix the problem.

I had exactly the same symptoms, it happened at 2000 miles...the dealer replaced the engine wiring harness and now after 1500 more miles the car has been running fine.

When the EML light comes on the engine goes into "limp-home" mode, that's why you couldn't go over 30 MPH.

Sorry to hear you have a problem WREN, but I was more interested in your name.

Is it your surname ?

It is mine, and therefore I was wondering whether we have the same genetic mutation that makes us buy MINIS ?

For what its worth mine suffers from the opposite problems to yours let me nkow when you go over 30 mph

adios

AMAZING coincedence . My car is still in the dealer..... been missing her. It's been a week. There is a nationwide back order for the wiring harness. I talked to the customer service manager of MINIUSA today. She assured me that they are on top of the problem. I sure will keep you posted.

Wow! That's too bad. It only took two days to get the wiring harness for my car...granted that was back in the beginning of March when I had it replaced.

Does anyone know what production months/dates were included in the wiring harness problem? Just got my car last Friday and it stalled on me in a parking lot yesterday. Hasn't happened since, but I worry that it may be a sign of things to come. After all it is a brand new car (cvt). Just curious what information your dealers gave you...

My Cooper S has only 900 miles on it. At 400 miles the airbag warning light cameon and at 900 miles the Check Engine Light and EML light came on with the same loss of power.
The car was towed to the dealer who is going to look at it tomorrow. He tells me it should be a quick fix!
Not bad, 900 miles of which 750 have been spent to and from the dealers and still on dealer tags. Still hoping to have lots of fun with this car, fingers crossed!

I am on a waiting list for a 2004 MCS. I hope I don't miss my Mercedes 560SEC too much - five years and absolutely no problems, even with 100K miles. I guess they just don't make cars like they used to ....
