United-States EML & Flat Lamp Lit

I started my MCS last night to leave the airport and soon after starting the EML and Flat Tire Warning Lamps both illuminated. I pulled off in to a parking lot and determined that none of the tires were damaged or had lost pressure. I started the car again and the lamps both turned on again. I decided to check the tires again just to make certain that I hadn't missed anything. When I restarted the car again both lamps were out. I drove the car to work this morning and both lamps are out. Has anyone experienced this "Ghost In The Machine" with the indicator lamps?

At a track day I was at last week the flat tire warning light was sometimes flashing and somwetimes on steady even although the tires were all at the same pressure.

At different times I also had the airbag light come on. Seems like the workout was too much for my poor baby!

I would be a lttle more sensitive to the EML light but there are so many things - fuel door not properly closed for example - that can cause it to light up. I would feel OK driving as long as it didn't reoccur.

Mine did the same thing one night for about an hour. I attributed my problem though to a period of frequent (30+) stop/off/start/unlock combinations as I drove around picking stuff up. Hasn't happened since.

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

My tire warning light has come on a few times. The tires are fine. If I shut down the engine and restart, the light goes off....I guess I have to have service look at it....

I freaked the car out last winter in snow. I was reversing in snow and not coming to a full stop before moving forward, I put the car into first and let the clutch out whilst reversing. the car was moving backward with the front wheels rotating forwards. All of a sudden every warning lite came on. Holy crap! Since then I make sure that all wheels are turning in the same direction.

Unhappy EML & Flat Lamp Lit

I have had my Mini for about 3 weeks now and have the run flat and the light above the EML (the triangle with the counter-clockwise arrow - can't figure out the name from the manual). Both times I have stopped, turned off the ignition and checked all tires which are fine. When I start my Mini again the lights are off.

Am planning to ask dealer about problem.

Blue Cooper

There are a few threads buried in here about this problem. Had my 03 MCS in for service for a leaking sunroof among other things and asked them again about this problem as it happens fairly often. They said MINI is working on a software fix for this (supposedly within the next month) Your dealer should know this is a MINI-wide problem. If not, just print a few of these threads out.

By the way, the light you're referencing with the triangle is the Dynamic Stability Control light.
