the rattle on mine was coming from the boot catch.

Open the boot and wrap some tape round the D shaped latch. The rattle should go.

Used to own a Mini One how I miss that car but once stolen was never the same.

Had the same problem and the same solution, tape round the D ring.
Took the car in last week for a new steering column and while it was there they also fitted a new latch and D ring and it is silent. Maybe worth a trip to your dealer now to see if new latches are available.

the four most likely candidates for noise from the boot area:

1. The two little balls that hang down from the tail gate lift - the ones that make the parcel shelf lift up - can bang on the sides. The simple answer for this (ingenious I think) is to tie a little not in the string just above the shelf - that way the balls don't hang low when you close the hatch (no s******ing at the back of the class please).

2. The two latches that lock the rear seat backs in place can rattle, use tape to dampen it....

3. The lock itself is well known to cause a rattle, many people have had it replaced. Again, tape it to dampen the sound.

4. The mini's boot is not designed to carry passengers. Let them out, and you will hear less noise (some American southerners like to keep their 'gimps' in the boot)!

Hope this helps

great humour but have you tried adjusting the bump stops on the tail gate? (if you can get in the car now).that solved my rattle.

the new catch is now available (and its chrome!) and new bump stops too, these should stop the rattling.

United-Kingdom Judder

I have a similar problem. Low speeds ridgy roads dull knocking from the rear. Unfinished roads are the worst. It seems to be when the car rocks that the noise is worst. Dealer said it was OK on "normal" roads but it knocks on my road. It has been back about five times but they claim to not be able to hear it!

I know how you feel.

(no wise cracks about going faster and turning the stereo up, your not funny)

My rear seatbelts like to make unwelcome noises when I motor with the windows down. I have started to leave them buckled which takes care of the problem.
