Had my Cooper S since April 03. Well chuffed although I noticed a few things recently. I hear a small short ‘tick’ sound every now and again. It comes, I think, from underneath and to the left hand side of the steering wheel column (I have a left hand drive version, so close to the drivers door) somewhere behind the panelling. It doesn’t seem to effect the driving in any way and can happen at any time/speed etc… Can anyone shed any light? I’m inclined to thinking it’s a noise from the electronics or something?
Also got the (seemingly well documented on this board) problem of hic-cup, yo-yo or stutter, although I’m not sure which one applies! In first when pulling away, I too am left standing by the 80 year old grandma on her bicycle (I live in Holland). There is no power at first and a sort of stutter accompanied with an ill sounding noise, then after getting the revs going in first it is fine and the cycling grandma is left well behind! No problems from rolling starts and from what I read on this board I should try with/without air-co and
DSC, and also by upping the revs before releasing the clutch (I’m sure this makes no difference though). Can someone let me know if this is yo-yo, stutter, hic-cup or what??
When ticking over I also hear a constant ‘tinging’ sound from I think both the motor and also under the car which wasn’t there when I first got it. Any ideas?
Lastly, I’m sure the exhaust now makes a lot more noise (done 5,500 km’s) splutter and crackling, especially when cold and in low gears and sometimes quite harsh with the occasional popping. Sounds great but didn’t used to do it and is this the norm I wonder?
I’m no car expert as you may by now have guessed!
