United-Kingdom New steering column reduced engine noise

I recently had a "clicky" steering wheel that resulted in my dealer replacing the steering column.

Ever since then, there's much less engine noise (and steering pump noise). I guess they found some missing/misplaced sound insulation.

Has anybody else had the same experience?

This should take no more than 2 hours.

I went to my dealer (Godfrey Hall, Shrewsbury) after reading about the clicking on this forum. They checked it over in a day (my choice) and said I needed a new steering column. They told me they'd order one and phone me back.

Three weeks later, I phoned them to see where it was but they still hadn't got one in. A week after that, they booked me in and fitted the new column - again in a day.

The reason they gave for the part taking so long was that there was no stock in the UK or Europe which I found very hard to swallow. It's a metal rod for crying out loud.

It was great once it was fixed. Since then my driver's window had started wobbling when the door opens and the chrome has started flaking off the gear knob.

This was the last straw. I went and traded it in for a new Toyota Rav4 yesterday. I know Toyotas a pretty much bullet proof and I can throw my bike in the boot now. The trade-in price was really good, more than I was expecting. Basically, I only lost about £1500 in the year that I had the car.

It's a shame that it came to this because I really wanted to love the Mini (and did at times) but the problems were all design faults. I can't imagine how BMW got it so wrong. I might get another in a few years time when all these faults have been sorted.

A Toyota RAV 4? Ohhhh boy! That has to be the ugliest, most boring cute ute in the market.

Toyotas also have faults too...difference is that the company does a good job in keeping them quiet from the public....ever heard of "Secret warranties"?

I worked at a Toyota dealerships many moons ago and I know that these cars suffer from some pretty unique weaknesess...
