Unhappy Faulty Syncro in Transmission - Cooper S

Greetings,

This past week, My Cooper S suddenly would not shift into 1st gear - almost like it wasn't there anymore -
Just after backing up from my parking space - 1st gear was gone. I had it towed to the nearest MINI dealership - the free roadside service was a breeze to use for those whom haven't used it. The dealer was at first baffled by the problem since all the other gears worked - the 1st gear syncro just went bad - it's funny since don't run my MINI hard at all - so this concerns me since it's been only 21k on my car. It took a few days to get the parts and 9 hours of shop time to have the transmission replaced. Asides not having a car for a few days - the service was excellent. My only concern is the future reliability of the car itself - I want to extend the warrenty - but its too much for something that shouldn't have happen.

Worried about a bleak future with my S.

Things like these can happen. A machine is a machine. Just take comfort in thinking that your new Getrag transmission is an updated unit and will probably will give you several miles of troublefree service.

Your problem seems to be rare among S owners.

Good luck.
