Question Auto Climate Control blows hot when off

When my auto climate control is turned off (no lights lit on the ACC panel), I get hot air out of the dash vents.

The work around I've developed involves turning the ACC on, then lowering the fan speed to off. It displays a temp setting in the round window, but it stops blowing hot out of the vents.

Is this a defect? Is there a better work around? It's hot year around in Hawaii, so this isn't a seasonal problem for me.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Bob

Yeah, mine does this too. It's as if the hot air off the engine is coming in through the vents. The fan is not on, but hot air is definately coming out. My solution is a little more lo-tech than yours however. I just turn the vents closed. Otherwise I'd cook with the windows down on a hot day.

Option 2 is to just hit the recirculate button(if there is one with ACC).
Works great in my car. One button and you're done.

I have never noticed this behaviour in my car.

I normally have the fan ON and the temp control "LO" and the sun roof in the first position (barely cracked)

I hadn't thought of the hot air as a fault, but I'm going to try the recirc button tip. Thanks obehave.

Thanks obehave.
I'm going to try the recirculate button today. Sounds much easier.
And, I suppose that I wouldn't consider this a fault except that it blows HOT air. Normal outside air would be fine, but hot air just makes it uncomfortable.

If it's like mine, it's just the ACC doing its job. I find this happening if, say, the temp is adjusted to 72 degrees F and the actual temp is below that. The ACC is trying to add warm air to bring the interior up to 72 degrees. I've found if I just knock the temp control down a notch or two, I have unheated air coming through the vents.

But then, that's just me.

Yeah, I usually turn the thermostat down to the lowest setting before turning it off to keep the hot air from coming out the vents. I like the feature for those kinda cold mornings when I don't wanna turn on the climate control.

As people above mentioned, the ACC will mix in hot air to reach your set temp.

To get only cold air with no hot air mixed in you have to set it to "LO".

If I turn the ACC off when it is set to "LO" I don't get any hot air through the vents when off, only the outside air.

If I turn off the ACC on any other setting then "LO", then hot air comes in through the vents.

Anyone know of any other way to just get outside air coming in through the vents?

I have the same problem. If I have the acc off and if i am on the highway, air is being forced through the engine compartment and through the heater core into the cab through whatever vents the acc was using last. I have had other cars with acc and none of them did this. When you turned the acc off the vents would close so no air could be forced through. Not sure why my MCS isnt doin this.

It's really annoying when you get into your car and start your journey only to find that you have to turn the Air Con ON to ajust the vents and then turn it OFF again.

When one day can be so different to the next here in the UK, it can be really annoying!

I have discovered something. If you start your mini with the acc previously off the light for the recirculate will be on. No air comes through then!! Unfortunatly you cant touch the button after u power up, it will go off, and if u try to turn it back on the acc goes on. So u gotta turn it off and then restart
