United-Kingdom wheel bearing

Bit disappointed when after 15k miles,my main dealer told me that the noise I heard when I drove slowly was a front offside wheel bearing that was shot. Having previously owned BL mini & cooper s, and never had a wheel bearing go is this a bad sign of things to come?

Collapsed Wheel Bearings on 08 Mini

Hi Penny,
I'm glad I found your piece on wheel bearings as this happened to me yesterday. I had a grinding noise which I had checked out by MINI only to be told the front wheel bearing had collapsed, the car has only done 1000 miles!! I was completely shocked as it could have been dangerous. Did you take you complaint any further with Mini? I must admit my confidence in them is fast disappearing as I had complained about the steering 3 weeks previously. I would really appreciate and info or advice regarding this matter. Thanks Heather

ive had mine go twice.....the first time i had no idea what it was n kept driving anyway, the hub started 2 fuse to the axle!!!!!! u should b able to get it under warranty, a new hub is unfortunately about 100 pounds in case u cant get it under warranty! ur best off getting it fixed as fast as possible and until then drive as slowly as u can!!

Hi, Just picked up your message, my problem turned out to be tyre wear in the end, The BMW garage totally got it wrong as the same thing happened again. They had a memo down from BMW head office to say that the noice wasnt bearings at all but tyre wear! I have since changed to a Cooper S works and I do get the noise when I turned hard slowly to the left and right but once again it is the tyres. Not sure if your problem is the same as you've only done 1000 miles. My Mini one had lots of little problems but they did with the earlier ones but the garage did fix them and I still bought another one. Try Mini complaints to see what they have to say because that isn't right for the same amount of mileage.
