New gearbox ???

Now my dealer has me worried, I have the gearstick rattle in 3rd and 5th about 4,000 rpm thats been talked about on here before... mine was in the dealers a couple of weeks ago, and they said they were going to contact Mini to see what the possible cause could be (most likely linkage they added) and they'd get back to me, finally spoke to the today and this was their response "well it seems we have a couple of things to try, but it could need a new gearbox !!!"... OMG !! .... it is now booked in for next Friday.... new gearbox ?, the car is only 7 weeks old with 3,000 miles on the clock.... I really hope they are not serious !!!

That doesn't sound good mate
You have had that problem from new, I can vouch for that. How about seeing if they can fix it, hope they can. If they can't talk about not being happy with the car and reject it?

i have ran into this problem and the fix for the 10 cars that i have fixed for this isue is the shifting cables.i have one question....?is you car a"s" or a cooper.the "s" is the one that hase the most isues with rattles coming from the shifter and the cooper has problems with the out put seals and heat treating of the main shaft.if your car is an "s" the shfting cables will be the fix.

Rob, yeah I have thought that, I dont fancy getting a new box and if that turns out to be the only fix then I'm going to consider it, I dont really want that, but neither do I want a car thats already needed a new gearbox after 7 weeks... i'll keep you informed
