Thanks for the updates sjbartnik. I don't think the actual sensor itself is causing my rattle, I was just using it as a landmark. The rattle seems to be coming from somewhere in front of it, under that harder black plastic panel. It could very well be that plastic piece itself rattling against the windshield, or something underneath it rattling, I can't really tell. Being able to stop the rattle with even the smallest amount of pressure leads me to believe it is the dash piece itself that is rattling, though. I should try wedging some cardboard or paper or something between it and the windshield and see if that helps anything.

This may help you guys. I had a few rattles that also came from the dashboard area and stopped by presing the dashboard around various points. I went through the process of taking the top pad off the dashboard and padding it with foam tape so you had to push it down harder when refitting. This cured a certain noise but not the main ones. I have found and cured the culprit - it made such a difference :-)
You will notice that most areas where different plastics meet are covered in tape. An important area has been missed. There are two posts that come up each side of the central column where the heater controls are. If you follow these up they eventually go behind the dashboard plastic. Try pushing the dashboard at these two points (plastic meets plastic here) and if this is your problem you will certainly here a squeak. My resolution was to fold a piece of insulation tape and push this between the two bits of plastic. The gap can only be opened a little bit by pulling the bottom of the dashboard so dont use anything sticky as it will be hard to get it in the gap. The dashboard plastic is quite thick so it shouldn't just push right up and into the dashboard.
Be careful not to scratch the plastic.
I will try and post a picture of the area if the above is not clear.
Let me know if it helps any of you.
If anyone is on the Yorkshire run this weekend I can show you.

SJBartnik, do you still have a website with instructions for addressing this issue? I have this exact dashboard noise going on in my 03MC. Pushing down near the vent eliminates the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I am having the same problem and was wondering if you would have some photos I can use to fix my rattle in front of the front dash near the vents.
