United-Kingdom Knock felt through steering wheel

My S has 5k miles on the clock and has developed a new knock felt through the steering wheel, increasingly obvious through time. It is most easily reproduced by reversing braking then accelerating forward with some wellie and is felt just once when the power is taken up. This doesnt sound like the usual steering column problem recently reported. Has anyone any experience of this? Thanks for your help.

Yes I do on my 6 week old car. Been there from day 1
My car is awaiting the parts to come in. My dealer says it's the steering rack and not column. I had exactly the same problem on my Cooper 18 mths ago which was fixed with a new steering rack.
What's so annoying is that this problem is still there in newer built MINIs

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

my steering was banging 2, they changed the steering column, the first time they said they were on back log for 5 weeks, goes to show how many MINIs r having this prob. Its happening again now, banging and on full lock i get a grinding noise, so its been booked in again to be looked at

If your window sticks up then get in the car, put the ignition on and then hold the electric window switch in the up position for 5 seconds. This will re-initialise the window and should hopefully sort out the problem.

Mine has developed this fault too. First noticed it a couple of weeks ago and thought I was imagining things, but it is steadily getting worse .

Almost due for the 1st inspection, but don't think I can wait that long.

Just noticed a knock from my new Cooper (250 miles on clock) yesterday. Very slight at the moment, but definitely there. It's due back in on Monday anyway so I'll get them to look at it then.

What I need to know is when the MINI is out of warranty will they start to charge you for another replacement rack . As uppy is on a 3rd rack and I am on my 2nd, whats to say in another year they may start to knock again

Was MK1 Black MINI ONE (Sept 2001 Build)
NOW NEW MX-5

My 3rd one is now lumpy and their is a stange scratchy sound from the steering column think it's to do with the power sterring it seems to get louder by the day and the sounds, sounds strained when you turn the ignition off. I don't intend having my MCS outside the warranty period the cost's could be limitless.

000Zero, did you get this sorted?
I have this exact problem.
Took MINI to the dealer on Monday, but "Sorry, I can't find anything wrong" was the reply.
They had my car on a test drive and even put it up on ramps. put spanners to it, but couldn't find anything loose.
I'm convinced that there is a problem, but cannot pin point what it is...and trying to convince the dealer is proving a nightmare!
